Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen
We opened Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen on February 7, 2011, at 1526 Walnut Street, in Kansas City’s vibrant Crossroads neighborhood. Tannin has been part of, and witness to, the dynamic growth and revitalization of Kansas City’s core and we are thrilled to be surrounded by a community anchored by the T-Mobile Center (2 blocks to our northeast), Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts (3 blocks to our west), exceptional non-profit organizations, numerous independent art galleries, shops, restaurants and performance spaces.
Tannin’s daily purpose is to highlight exceptional wine and food in a comfortable, relaxed, and inviting atmosphere. We are deliberate in our efforts to present wine and food in ways that are approachable, inclusive, and encourage exploration. Our wine program is a reflection of this effort and, while we have an extensive wine by-the-bottle list to explore, our core offerings are featured by the glass and taste to encourage our guests and staff to seek out new wines and experiences. Our wine clubs, regular-themed wine tastings, winemaker events, and wine dinners are all meant to encourage further exploration and engagement. We want great wine experiences to be available to all!
Our wine offerings are handmade, the artisanal work of some of the globe’s best farmers and winemakers. The wines are made from grapes grown in some of the most exciting regions and locations and embody the distinctive qualities achieved through the ideal combination of grapevines, well-situated sites, and careful winemaking. Overwhelmingly, the winemakers that we work with are genuinely passionate people who share our goal of encouraging everyone to enjoy a great glass of wine. So many of them also really demonstrate their care and interest for our community, as reflected when we host winemaker events at Tannin and when winemakers have the opportunity to host people from our community who are visiting their regions.
Our food offerings, while delicious and satisfying on their own, are intended to be best enjoyed in harmony with our distinctive wines. Our team of Chefs carefully sources exceptional ingredients and employs traditional techniques to create truly beautiful dishes and menus. Similar to our wine program, our food offerings share a core quality of integrity but also offer something for every occasion, whether a quick cheese or charcuterie board ideally suited to your glass of wine, stunning seasonally inspired small plates and entrees, arguably the best burger in Kansas City or multi-course prix-fixe and private dining meals.
Tannin’s most important element in our community. We would love to be the place for your most anticipated moments, but also your everyday occasions. Over the years, Tannin has been that place; for first dates and business meetings, solo dinners (with or without the laptop) and celebrations for landing the big deal, rehearsal dinners and career achievement celebrations, for anniversaries and retirement parties. For at least a few, Tannin has been the place for all of the above, as well as a regular stop-in on a quiet weeknight.
Tannin’s larger purpose is simply to be that place where our community can come together, on special occasions and no occasions at all. We believe that Tannin is someplace special and our place is somewhere we would like to see you soon!
